- Choose or create the
shape you want to “sew” onto. You can use any shape but its best to avoid
sharp corners for now. To make your own for this tut use the path tool to
make an oval then fill with the colour or texture of your choice.
- Duplicate your shape
and resize it to be slightly smaller than the first (bottom) one.
- Click on the T (text
tool) and use the following settings:
font: Arial, bold, size: 32 (for now), colour: your choice (one that
contrasts with your oval shape works well), 3D custom.

- Click anywhere on your
image and type a single letter capital I
- With the letter still
selected, click on the smaller of your two shapes to select it as well.
- From the object menu
choose “wrap-fit together” and voila! You now have an oval of satin stitch
that you can re-size to fit around the hem of your shape or use as a
decorative element.

- You can add more
stitched shapes, as many as you wish, repeating steps 2-6.
- At step 4 you can choose
a different letter as well eg. capital T will
give blanket stitch and X will give cross stitch. Or you can type a
combination of 2 or more characters eg 0-

- To make your stitches
longer & wider, you can select (click on) your stitching then on the
Text tool and chose a bigger font size. This will change the size of your
stitching object, but you can re-size it again with the re-size tool.
Personalising
your work:
As long as you keep to the suggested shadow and 3D custom
settings, you can experiment with changing textures, colours, and bumps to your
heart’s content!
One quick way is to use the Text options in the Easy
Palette Gallery, but you’ll need to adjust the shadow, etc., with most of them.
(See screen shots below for controlling 3D object properties the easy way).
Remember, some changes (but not those listed here) will
convert your 3D object to an image, so your editing options are then changed.
